Fire Alarm Investigation

Hi everypony. We want to announce the results of The Hilton’s investigation into what caused the fire alarm at this year’s convention, what steps we’re taking to reduce the likelihood of it happening again, and what our plans are if further fire evacuations occur.

What caused the alarm?

The alarm was triggered by a fire-alarm point in a plant room above the nightclub. It was triggered by either vibration or smoke. No fault in the alarm point itself was discovered though the glass remained in place.

What changes are you making?

  • ConFuzzled is working with the Hilton to produce a custom fire evacuation/response plan for our event, which will be updated every year.
  • Since the alarm, the hotel has already made improvements to exit routes, lighting, stairways, and announcements.
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans will be put in place for every attendee with specific accessibility needs. If you have an accessible room at the Hilton or have checked the “Accessibility Needs” checkbox in your registration, The Registration team will be in touch with you. If this applies to you, please ensure this is checked in your registration at https://reg.confuzzled.org.uk.
  • More hotel staff, including senior management staff, will be on duty for night shifts in future.
  • Finally, this particular alarm point will be isolated at future events.

We hope this answers any questions you may have had about the unfortunate fire alarm at this year’s convention – if you want to follow up with us about anything please contact info@confuzzled.org.uk and we’ll do our best to help you.

Finally, we’d just like to thank you all once again for your patience, and for the way you all worked together as a community to help each other out that night.
