Subcommunity Events at ConFuzzled
Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! Did you know that we’re holding a convention very soon? We are totally fine and very calm.
We’re making this announcement today on a rather serious topic that we’re aware has been discussed with alarm in some online channels. We are always doing our best to recognise, reflect on, and mitigate the concerns of our attendees and the wider community. On this particular subject there are a number of misleading and inaccurate pieces of information circulating that we would like to take the time to directly address.
A number of you have reached out via email or through our social media channels regarding what has been described as a new babyfur or ABDL event taking place at the Convention. There are in fact two events that could be the original source of this rumour. One event is called “Little Scribbles”, taking place on Sunday at 17:00, described in our conbook and our online events listing as follows:
Are you worried you can’t draw? Come draw with crayons, to not only connect with your inner kid and other attendees, but also to show that creating is more important than the end product. Together we turn our creations into a big collage on the wall, making the world a little bit brighter one crayon stroke at a time.
The other is “Littlefurs Hangout” which is happening on Sunday at 14:00 and has the following description:
Calling all babyfurs, kidfurs, littles, middles, bigs, age players and age regressors. This is a meet-up for furries who like to live on the smaller side of life. We’ll have a colouring corner, a chill space, some games and maybe some music. Bring your cutest outfit and favourite plushie and join us for a couple hours of little space.
There are a few pieces of information that we’d like to make clear:
- These are not new events – These events have been held at ConFuzzled for several years. Little Scribbles has been held for at least three years, with other similar events, with different names, having existed for many years prior.
- These are not adult/Moonlight events – Moonlight events are events at the convention which allow for a more relaxed dress code than the general dress code, and which take place after a watershed hour and are clearly labelled as such in our schedule. These include our Pet Play and Shibari events. “Little Scribbles” and “Littlefurs Hangout” are not Moonlight events, but SFW chillout spaces with no adult themes.
- Diapers will not be worn visibly at these events – The outfit clause of our Code of Conduct covers all attendees in all public areas of the hotel, for these and all other events. Our teams operate on a traffic light system to assess whether an outfit might be in breach of the CoC. The visible wearing of diapers is currently assessed as red under this system and thus not permitted in public at any time.
- Our entire Convention is 18+ only and exclusive – All attendees must be over 18 in order to attend, and we have exclusivity over the Convention hotel. Anyone who cannot present an ID that demonstrates they are over 18 is not allowed to complete registration and anyone who is not registered is not allowed within the hotel grounds. This is managed by both our teams, the hotel, and our externally hired security team. This means that there is no possibility of minors being exposed to NSFW content, which is also not allowed in the public spaces of the Convention.
- ConFuzzled provides safe spaces for many subcultures within the fandom to socialise – We have, almost since the Convention’s inception, provided a space for our attendees to host events for different subcultures to socialise. From littles to pups, from those into vore to those who enjoy inflation. These social events have taken place every year we have been running.
As convention directors it is ultimately our job to ensure the safety of attendees coming to ConFuzzled and to do our best to provide a safe and inclusive space where our attendees are able to express themselves and their identities. We take this responsibility very seriously while recognising that balancing the freedom to express yourself in a safe space with the needs of others to feel safe from harm is a difficult challenge.
We want to reassure you that the littlefurs events are a safe-for-work relaxation event hosted to give them the opportunity to meet and chill with some colouring in activities.
When planning our events, our core concern for safety is always foremost. While our moonlight events allow for a more relaxed attitude towards outfits, we want to re-iterate that these are not moonlight events.
The convention would never allow a platform to sexualise minors and would never allow an event to go on that would endanger our core beliefs of supporting community members in a safe space.
We hope that all of the above goes some way to assuaging concerns that any of you who have come across discussion on this topic might have had. We also hope that it dispels some of the inaccuracies that have been circulating with regards to the nature of the event, the wider Convention, and our approach to these kinds of issues.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all in Birmingham in a few weeks’ time. In the meantime, stay safe, support each other, and pack suncream.
Kind regards
Directors
